Mr. Baranyai is a lawyer and expert in environmental and European Union law. He holds a Master of Law degree from Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest, as well from the University College London. During EU accession negotiations, he served as the environmental attaché of Hungary to the EU between 1999-2003 in Brussels. Following this, he became head of the Ministry of Environment and Water, then head of the Department of International Relations at the Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Future Generations. Between 2010 and 2014, Mr. Baranyai was Deputy State Secretary for EU Structural Policies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary. In this position he was responsible for the coordination of Hungary’s EU positions on environment, climate and energy policy, agriculture, transport, internal market, as well as for UN negotiations on sustainable development. He was chief organiser of the 2013 Budapest Water Summit. Since 2014, he works as independent consultant.
