What´s the solution?

KPMG does not own office buildings in Hungary but as a lessee, weaim to operate our business in a responsible way. Since high energy use of office buildings contribute to climate change significantly, as a company committed to sustainable development, KPMG has been focusing on managing this issue. In December 2014, KPMG’s office building received the BREEAM* Very Good qualification, which guarantees that the office was built and has been operated according to high sustainability standards. This qualification proves that the entire process and life-cycle of the building project is measurable and comparable to sustainable standards. By applying this methodology, a building’s environmental impact can be quantified.

The planning process covered both construction, operation and usage, hereby offering truly sustainable solutions. We achieved the highest standards in many areas (transportation, waste management, sustainable site, building management, occupational health, air pollution, water management), which proves that not only environmental but social aspects have been also tackled. The office building secures suitable environment for quality work through its infrastructure and applied technology solutions, using significantly less energy than in conventional buildings.

*BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) is one of the first, most comprehensive and widely recognised measures of a building’s environmental performance.

we manage to increase satisfaction and loyalty of our employees by applying leading sustainable and CR practices.

Results

Action results can be quantified. The development was realised at the site of an already existing building which had been demolished. Waste produced during construction was collected separately. Currently, there are six types of waste we collect separately. Construction companies selected had to meet specific environmental and social requirements.

Overall, we managed to increase our CO₂ emissions by 50% compared to 2010 levels. This is largely due to the local district heat provider which increasingly uses renewable energy..

By setting an example, we facilitate the development and spread of this type of solution, benefiting not only sustainability but business too. We believe that managing climate change and adopting flexible business solutions will become one of the top priorities of all companies, either voluntarily or obligatory.

KPMG in Hungary’s Energy Policy – completed by our energy and sustainability advisory team has received the ISO 50001:2011 standard in 2016.

This certification ensures reliably to clients, suppliers, partners and employees that KPMG aims to reduce its energy consumption via the systematic monitoring and management of energy usage in all its operations.
