SCA Hygiene Products regularly monitors the environmental impacts of its transport activities and works to reduce its emissions overall. 95% of SCA’s freight transport is carried out by road, the environmental impact of which is sought through various cooperation projects, including the use of fuel reduction techniques and continuous testing of biomass-based operation of vehicles. The action plan includes taking into account the height of the pallets and optimizing the loading ratio when packing the goods to be delivered. The plan also includes combined transport, use of two-tier trucks and strategic planning such as selecting the optimal geographic location for production and department stores to reduce shipping distances. It is important that the sustainability of procurement procedures is also considered and that the entire supply chain needs to be encouraged for the same environmental conscious endeavours. In addition to continuously improving the packaging of our products, we have also focused on transport packaging, so we have developed charging optimization that optimizes our customers’ needs, transportation costs and environmental considerations.

In order to reduce transport-related emissions, we are also constantly improving fuel consumption: in 2015, 54% of the fuel used in transport was from biofuels, 43% from natural gas, only 2% from petrol / diesel, and 0.5% came from coal. This will greatly contribute to the achievement of lower carbon emissions in the future, as the most harmful fossil fuel is continuously reduced, and alternatives are sought. By more efficient delivery, we reduce carbon dioxide emissions per unit product.
