Mi a megoldás?

Az Unilever kódexét 2010-ben hozták létre, mely nemzetközi szinten folyamatos ellenőrzéssel igyekszik megfelelni miközben cselekvésre késztet ott, ahol a kiemelt elvárások azt igénylik a vállalat teljes értékláncán. A dokumentum egyrészt kritériumokat, másrészt ajánlásokat fogalmaz meg. Azokon a területeken, ahol sok gazdának nehézsége akad a szabályoknak való megfelelésben vagy ahol ezek végrehajtása a kínálatban kialakuló problémákhoz vezetne, ott együttműködéssel oldják meg a problémákat. Az öntözés során használt víz minőségének a tesztelése és az ehhez kapcsolódó adatok benyújtása kötelező, valamint ajánlott az öntözés lebonyolításán és megszervezésén dolgozó munkatársak oktatása is. A szabályzat kötelező, szigorú elvárásokat és irányelveket tartalmaz. Kötelező például olyan hivatalos papírral rendelkezni, amely engedélyt ad az igényelt vízmennyiség felhasználására, a hulladékok rendeltetésszerű kiiktatására a vállalat és a munkatársak által. Kötelező még az öntözés aspektusainak ellenőrzése a talaj és a vizek szennyezésének elkerülése érdekében, valamint mikrobiológiai, kémiai és ásványi tartalma szempontjából folyamatos elemzéseket kell végrehajtani rajtuk.

Mi az üzleti kapcsolódás?

A világ vízének mindössze 3%-a édesvíz és ebből csak 1% használható fel, az országok körülbelül egyharmada vízhiányos és ez a mennyiség várhatóan erősen emelkedik majd a növekvő népesség, a változó életszínvonal és az éghajlatváltozás miatt. Rengeteg Unilever által használt növény igényel öntözést, valamint a mezőgazdasági üzemek feldolgozásának bizonyos típusai sem nélkülözhetik a vizet, ezáltal a felhasznált víznek fenntartható forrásokból kell származnia, valamint a későbbiekben is fenntartható módon kell felhasználni azt. Ez létfontosságú vállalat hosszú távú működésének érdekében

Eredmények és hatás

Az Unilever több mint 4000 vízgazdálkodási tervet dolgozott ki a szállítókkal és a termelőkkel a fenntartható beszerzési program keretében. Ezek a tervek személyre szabottan változásokat eredményezhetnek a gazdaságok egészében. A csepegtető öntözés bevezetésével a víz egyenesen a növény gyökerébe jut, elkerülve a vízpazarlást, valamint javítva a talaj és a benne található tápanyagok minőségét. Emellett az Unilever támogatja a vízszegény területek termelőit a csepegtető öntözéses rendszerek kiépítésében. A Knorr Partnership Fund (KPF) segítségével a vállalat a görög paradicsomtermelők a vízfelhasználását 28% -kal csökkentette, míg Indiában a program mintegy 3700 családnak segített egy alacsonyabb technológiai szintű csepegtető öntözőrendszer megvalósításában. Ezek 20% -kal növelik a hozamot, és 25% -kal csökkentik a vízfelhasználást. A legfrissebb csepegtető öntözési projektek között szerepel a kaliforniai hagyma- és fokhagyma-termelők támogatása.
